Out-of-hospital resuscitation 1: adult basic life support

Nurses will be familiar with the procedure for advanced life support, but may be less confident with basic life support skills that are required to manage out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. This article, the first in a four-part series, describes how to assess a casualty, and perform chest compressions and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Advice is also given on managing patients with suspected respiratory infections.
