Treclin: tretinoin/clindamycin combination for acne

Treclin, a once-daily topical formulation of tretinoin and clindamycin, is licensed for the treatment of acne. In our New products review, Steve Chaplin presents the clinical data relating to it efficacy and adverse events.

KEY POINTS

  • Treclin is a gel containing clindamycin 1% and tretinoin 0.025% for the treatment of acne vulgaris when comedones, papules and pustules are present in patients aged at least 12

  • it is applied to the face once daily at bedtime

  • treatment should not exceed 12 weeks’ duration without careful evaluation

  • in clinical trials, Treclin was superior to monotherapy with clindamycin or tretinoin in patients with mild to moderate acne, and similar in efficacy in severe acne

  • adverse effects are typical of the component drugs

  • a 30g tube costs £11.94
