Defending Standardized Testing (see record 2005–02701–000) focuses on providing a balanced overview of standardized testing and addresses various issues and criticism that face standardized testing. The book includes 12 chapters written by authors who have extensive experience as academic researchers and practitioners. The first four chapters answer the question “Why use standardized testing?,” and the last eight chapters provide an overview about how to implement and benefit from standardized testing. The reviewer concludes that Defending Standardized Testing is an easy to read book, and the topics are even easier to follow. I think this is mainly because of the logical and meaningful way the editor chose to organize the information. This book provides a balanced approach to understanding the role of testing in general and standardized testing in particular. It will help the reader identify and understand some of the current debates within the community of testing experts. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
