Looking back, heading forward
Carl G. Groth, MD, Ph.D. is a Professor Emeritus of Transplantation Surgery at the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden. Groth was born in Helsinki, Finland in 1933. He was the Chief of Transplantation Surgery at Huddinge Hospital in Stockholm (1976–2000) and Professor of Transplantation Surgery at the Karolinska Institute (1984–2000). He was the founding president of the International Xenotransplantation Association (1998). He is a member of the WHO Expert Advisory Panel on Organ Tissue and Cell Transplantation, and in this context he is focusing on issues in xenotransplantation.
